Foster-to-Adopt: Is it a Match?
PUBLISHED IN FOSTERING FAMILIES TODAY MAGAZINE, 2020
Family does not fit into a cute little box. Start with your feet cemented firmly in reality, then ask yourself what kind of parent you want to be.
My husband and I always wanted to experience both pregnancy and adoption to build our family. Of course controlling the timeline is close to impossible. We started the foster/resource home approval in hopes of adopting first, but the process took time and surprisingly (or not) we got pregnant. There were several starts and halts, so by the time we found ourselves at a matching event, our son was already 9 months old.
The Melvin Singularity
PUBLISHED ON VOCAL MEDIA, 2021 FINALIST FOR FICTION PRIZE
My mother told us stories of the old world, when everyone lived on the surface of the planet. The oceans had tides, families played outside in the grass, and traveled in airplanes. Moments captured on camera and old movies stored in the archives are all I have of the surface now. Did you ever hear the saying, maybe the universe is telling us something? Well it started speaking, but humans only have a microscopic understanding of its language.
